Silver Price Drops Sharply In Overnight

The silver price is testing new lows in the overnight trading session.  Shortly after 6pm eastern time, silver dropped below the $21.00 level.  It appears silver may continue this drop below $20, with strong support near the $19.00 level.

If the $19.00 level is breached we may be in for a very significant drop.

The recent price drops in silver have been a correction in a long term bull market, and this drop may finally put in a bottom for the market and set us up for a rapid rally.  This analysis is based on the fact that silver's fundamentals have never been stronger, with the federal reserve continuing with its loose money policies.  In addition to the fed's money printing operation, central banks around the world continue to ease already loose policy by cutting interest rates as they race to devalue their currency the fastest.

Eventually the logical conclusion of these activities will be reached, and the effects of massive inflation will be felt in rising prices across asset classes, including silver.

Optimizing Hashrate While Mining Litecoin With HD7850 GPU

I've been doing some Litecoin mining with my Sapphire HD7850.
Running windows 7 64 bit with a Phenom 4x CPU and 8 gigs of system ram.  Running cgminer with the following settings I have been able to consistently maintain 350 khash/s with good stability.

C:\cgminer\cgminer.exe --scrypt -o http://host.com:Port -u Name -p Pass  --thread-concurrency 8192 -I 17 -g 1 --gpu-engine 1050  --gpu-memclock 1300

If I am using the computer while I mine I change the intensity to 14 with the following settings, these will maintain 270 Khash/s without any noticeable screen lag.

C:\cgminer\cgminer.exe --scrypt -o http://host.com:Port -u Name -p Pass  --thread-concurrency 8192 -I 14 -g 1 --gpu-engine 1050  --gpu-memclock 1300

WARNING: The settings above will overclock your GPU core and memory clock.  Familiarize yourself with overclocking before attempting to use these settings.  Overclocking improperly can result in damage to your hardware and may void a product's warranty.

AAPL Price Drop - S&P500 Triple Top Crash

Is the falling share price of AAPL a warning of a broad market crash?  Apple reports earnings next week, if it doesn't look good the share price may drop considerably.  Meanwhile, the S&P500 is completing what appears to be a triple top.  Is a large market correction imminent?

Solved: Litecoin Client Error

I was receiving the following error when attempting to start my litecoin client today:

"An error occured while setting up the RPC port 9332 for listening: open: An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used"

I am running Windows XP 32 bit, and apparently this error has been encountered by others.  After perusing forums for a bit, I found a solution the problem.

To correct this problem, you must install IPv6 on your network connection.

Here is how you do it, straight from Microsoft's website:

1.Open Network Connections
2.Right-click any local area connection, and then click Properties.
3.Click Install.
4.In the Select Network Component Type dialog box, click Protocol, and then click Add.
5.In the Select Network Protocol dialog box, click Microsoft TCP/IP version 6, and then click OK.
6.Click Close to save changes to your network connection.
Note
To open Network Connections, click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.

And that was all there was to it!

Mining Litecoins With a CPU

I've become interested in Bitcoins, and cryptocurrencies in general as of late.  If you don't know what a cryptocurrency is, I would recommend reading this short article on the subject:
http://www.techopedia.com/definition/27531/cryptocurrency

In short, cryptocurrencies are digital money based on an algorithm.  Cryptocurrencies are "mined" using computer processing power.  In theory, anyone with a computer can mine for these coins by using your processor to solve a mathematical algorithm.  The more processing power you have, the faster you can solve the algorithm, and the more coins you can acquire.  As time goes on and more and more coins have been discovered, they become more difficult to find until one day, they have all been found.

At this stage in the game, bitcoins (the original cryptocurrency, started in 2009) are fairly difficult to mine and you need some serious processing power, usually in the form of a high end graphics processor (GPU).  Mining bitcoins with a basic computer processor (CPU) is essentially a waste of time.

Now, if you have a CPU you would like to mine cryptocurrencies with, have no fear, there is an alternative to Bitcoin, a little brother cryptocurrency called Litecoin.  The Litecoin algorithm is written differently from Bitcoin's, in a way that makes CPUs more effective for mining compared to GPUs.  GPUs are still faster, but not to the degree found with Bitcoin.

So I've begun CPU mining Litecoins.  Its a fairly slow process (after about a day of mining I have around .01 litecoin), but still I believe optimizations can be made to speed the process up.  I am using an Athlon Dual Core CPU, not particularly powerful, so I find this actually somewhat promising.  I got stared mining by using the guide found here: http://cryptocur.com/litecoin/litecoin-mining/

For anyone with a computer that sits for a good part of the day, mining Litecoins might be a good way to earn some digital cash.  If you have a gaming setup with a powerful video card, you may actually be able to make a good amount of cash.

If Litecoins catch on, their price will almost certainly rise, and you will be glad you got started mining early in the game.

If you'd like to donate some Litecoins to The Atheron Blog, send them over to LafjdLKbeb8VE3x4Xej97nNwnAJ3GFZ5Ae  Thanks!
